If you look back to my previous blogs, you will see that I have already written about how certain vitamins and minerals can help to improve the condition of your hair, skin and nails. Now I would like to introduce you to a few other supplements that can go a long way to giving you great looking skin.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine: This supplement has been used by people wanting to lose weight. It is known as a fat burner, but bear in mind that you need to exercise as well in order to create muscle and burn off calories. Apart from that Accetyl-L-Carnitine is especially recommended for people over the age of 50 who are struggling to repair the damage caused to their skin.
Alpha Lipoic Acid: This is a great supplement because not only is it a very powerful antioxidant, but it also raises the levels of Vitamins C and E in the body. What this means is that Alpha Lipoic Acid not only is a free radical scavenger, but it helps keep the skin moisturised, protects the collagen of the skin and makes the capillaries stronger.
Coenzyme Q10: Some Coenzyme Q10 is made in the liver by our bodies, but an extra dose, in supplement form protects the skin from free radical damage. This is because Coenzyme Q10 is able to penetrate the cell’s membrane and protect it from the damage caused by free radicals. All this and Coenzyme Q10 is known to have a protective effect on the heart.
L-Glutamine: This versatile amino acid has many functions, one of which is the promotion of a healthy immune system. We all know that when we have a healthy immune system not only do we have more energy but our hair is more shiny, our nails are stronger with a healthy pinkish glow and our skin looks more radiant.
Omega 3 and 6: In my opinion, this could be the best supplement you can take, so this may be the last supplement on my list, but it is definitely not least. Omega 3, especially, helps to fight inflammation in the body. It helps skin the skin and joints “oiled” and it is a true brain food. Omega 3 is found in oily fish such as salmon and tuna. So the old saying is true, that eating fish makes one more clever. Omega 3 cannot be made by the body, so we have to get it from food like fish, or in supplement form, or if you are a vegetarian, then Flaxseed Oil is a great alternative.
